Leap year madness!

We've had crazy weather in Vancouver today. Check out the view from our bedroom window:

Seeing snow on the beach near our house is truly bizarre! Wish it would last until the weekend....

The sun has got his hat on...

Yes, the sun is finally putting his hat on in Vancouver. It's not quite Spring yet - but glimpses of the new season are within view.

We decided to have a break from skiing & went for a hike instead. Wreck Beach is a ten minute drive from our house & it's pretty spectacular. Check it out:

The wind was pretty extreme making the sea almost surf-able (you can imagine David's excitement!) Definitely worth a visit for anyone heading to Vancouver soon (Sarah, Dee, Bob...).

Wreck Beach backs onto Pacific Spirit Park, a great place for hiking. Photos of our adventures are below:

Now the seasons are changing, hiking will become much more accessible - bring it on!

Stateside: part two

An interesting weekend. We decided to venture State-side again & ski in Mount Baker.

We travelled to Abbotsford from Vancouver, then crossed over the border. This should have been the route:

Unfortunately we got lost - almost immediately (in Downtown Vancouver) & things spiralled from there. A journey that should have taken us a couple of hours took nearer 3.5. Slightly painful but we got there in the end - and picked up a couple of hitch-hikers to keep us entertained on route.

We also used chains on our tires for the first time: pretty exciting. They're difficult to get on but efficient at stopping Monty (our car) from sliding.

The snow was really powdery - so David was in his element. Powder is quite a challenge for me but I still had fun & didn't break any bones.

I also thought I'd braved my first black run in Canada (go me!) - only to be told by David that I've actually done quite a few in Whistler, but he didn't tell me! Good to know I can handle black!

First sighting of...a Raccoon!

OK, so perhaps this isn't as exciting to everyone else - but for us, it was pretty special.

On route back from Whistler, we drove through Stanley Park and this is what we saw:

This isn't actually our photo - but you get the gist. We saw a little Raccoon staring at us from the pavement. Quite exciting: our first sighting.

Driving through Stanley Park on route home is now essential...
